According to Robert Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET), the 2020 election is Trump’s to lose and that none of the current Democratic presidential candidates are “capable of beating” him. Johnson made the comments in an interview with CNCBC that aired Friday.

“I think the president has always been in a position where it’s his to lose based on his bringing a sort of disruptive force into what would be called political norms,” Johnson, who founded cable network BET and RLJ Companies business network, told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble.

He explained that Trump “brings his style” to the way he handles issues such as in foreign policy or immigration. That’s something that the president’s supporters like and the reason why they voted for him and will do so again next year, added Johnson.

Trump’s ability to “dominate the news cycle” also puts him above his challengers, according to Johnson. He explained that Democrats often gets caught up and agitated over what Trump says, and then lose focus on substance. In addition, he said none of the Democratic presidential candidates appear to be “enough in the center” where most voters are, particularly African-American voters.

“If you take a snapshot today, I don’t think that group is capable of beating Trump despite what the polls say,” he said.

Johnson describes himself as a longtime Democrat but has made many positive comments about Trump. Back in July, Johnson praised Trump’s record on the economy and blasted Democrats for moving “too far left.” Recent polls have shown Trump has made inroads with minority voters. Rasmussen, Emerson, and Marist polls have each shown roughly 33 percent approval from non-white and African American voters, significantly higher than the 16 approval achieved by President Bush with African Americans.

  1. Mr. Robert Johnson sounds juw5 like the Democrats I used to know back in the 60’s when I was a Democrat. Back then they had ideas and plans for America. That all changed when Bill Clinton took office, he degraded the Office of the President in the White House when he had the affair with Monica of the blue dress. And ever since then, the Democrats went down and down. I quit being a Democrat since that event and I have no regrets about it, especially now then Mr. Trump is president, making America great again, and 2020 belongs to him. God, keep on blessing President Trump.
